P172 livens up This is a childhood lantern of mine. It was outside my local leisure centre where I used to go swimming, I saw it all the time and yet in all the years, I only saw it lit once, glowing a dull green. That was about 15 years ago, but I have it on good authority that it worked as late as 2019. Still, as soon as I got it home, I put a plug on it and the old grump fired right up! I believe the Philips HPL-N lamp is the original lamp that was in it when it was installed in 1988! Keywords: Lamps

How well does the bowl survive the UV from the lamp. I found lanterns like the Thorn 'Precinct' the plastic diffusers would turn almost brown with UV from 80w and 125w mercury lamps in close proximity in a relatively short time.

These are opal Perspex like the P178, it doesn't yellow and fares pretty well.
