Testing a rare white sodium lamp

This picture shows the power analyzer in action while running a very rare white sodium lamp, the Philips SDW-AR 35W. This lamp was designed, built and tested in the early 1980s with the intention to achieve significant energy saving in existing incandescent lighting installations by replacing the 100 W silver-crown GLS lamp in its reflector luminaire. Such inefficient lighting system was commonly used in shop windows and retail displays back then because of their glare-free illumination. However, Philips never released the silver-crown version of the SDW because of its too specialized application, and opted to push for new lamps and luminaires instead of going for retrofit solutions.

Very nice, I have a few crown-silver incandescent lamps, but I've never been able to find a suitable fixture for them Sad bulb icon

There should be some old ones available on e-bay, I think. Those were once very popular during the 1970s, 80s and early 90s.

I saw one on eBay once, they wanted £60 for it and it wasn't in the best of condition. I wasn't prepared to pay that, so I made them an offer of £50 which they refused. So I'm still looking.

Even £50 is too much for such luminaire in my opinion, so better keep looking.
