New generation of metal halide short-arc lamp

Shown here in operation at nominal regime is a Sylvania 800 W BriteArc lamp that was introduced in 2000, the first metal halide short-arc lamp in the company's lineup to feature an outer bulb made of a UV-block quartz glass material. The reduction of shortwave emission puts much less stress on the luminaire and makes the lamp suitable for showroom and exhibit lighting as the risk of color fading is considerably reduced. Interestingly, the lamp also has a rather unusual wattage, introduced so as to provide a light source solution between the standard 575 and 1200 W metal halide short-arc lamps. Sylvania designed the BA 800 SE HR in such a way that its dimensions and end cap are identical to those of the 575 W BriteArc, thus enabling the use of existing (or standard) compact luminaires whose lumen output could be raised by 30 % (a new ballast was required though).
