Compact daylight MH lamp in operation

Iwasaki of Japan made compact quartz metal halide lamps of unparalleled quality. Their ColorArc range of lamps featured a light color quality of 96 Ra8, achieved through advanced burner design. This HDR picture shows the cool-daylight "D" variant in operation, with a view on the arc burning in an atmosphere of mercury and metal halide vapors. The salt mix used here consists of iodides of dysprosium, neodymium and cesium, resulting in the emission of 6500 K light. A glass sleeve surrounds the burner to prevent a violent lamp rupture at end of life, and for additional safety the outer bulb is coated with zinc oxide to block UVs off.

Me too, I even have a small stock of those cool-daylight ColorArcs for a later usage. The beauty with their fill chemistry in that case is that those lamps can be operated at a lower power (i.e., to prolong life) without causing a nasty green shift in the emitted light color. Light remains white, albeit of a higher CCT, but that's not really an issue.
