Control Box for GEC 400W NE/H Hot Cathode Neon Tube

First of all, let me say that we did not build this, it was constructed by Andy (Photonicinduction) and we persuaded him to part with it for erm... some cash..! No doubt we could have built one, but it would not have been to such a high standard and it would have taken a considerable amount of time, and as we were collecting a lamp at the same time, it made sense. Unfortunately, there isn't a full circuit diagram, but basically the system consists of two (400W and 150W) HPS ballasts, a small fluorescent ballast (for the lowest power settings) plus an ignitor. There are also two filament transformers to maintain the cathode heating. Using various combinations of the switches, it is possible to run the tube at 10%, 30%, 70%, 80% and 100%, at which point it becomes insanely bright, not to mention HOT..! Oh and it weighs a LOT 😋

Photon is a cracking engineer, and we're proud to call him a friend. Cool

Nice set up incorporating switched load options.

It is, he might have gone a little bit overboard in the construction. Razz

It apparently took him two weeks, he said he was bored and needed something to do Rolling Eyes Mr. Green
