As anyone who knows me will confirm, I'm rather contrary and like to be different, so last year, when we decided to get a car again after several years without one, I thought I'd get something that not many people around here have, so here is a Buick Encore, which for those of you in the UK/Europe is basically the North American version of the Vauxhall/Opel Mokka. Nothing special engine-wise, 1400cc petrol, 6-speed auto box, but it pulls well and on the 500-mile trip home it averaged 42mpg. It'll most likely be less than that around town, but we can live with that, given our intended usage.

For those wondering how it ended up in the UK, it was imported in 2015 by an American serviceman in the US Air Force, and it had only done 31,500 miles from new when we picked it up..! It's absolutely immaculate outside and in, so we're rather pleased with ourselves..!

It has a built-in inverter that sends 120V 60Hz to a NEMA socket in the rear footwell area..! Maximum wattage 150W, not sure if it'd power a discharge lamp, but it has no problems with a 100W incandescent..! I've also fitted a 3-camera dashcam system and my dual-band amateur radio transceiver (with a hands-free microphone, before anyone tells me off for driving with a mic in my hand..!)

Oh yes, the name; Sammi names everything, and she's called the car Christopher after the American classical composer Christopher Tin, whose music we like, we also had the name signwritten on the back, see additional photo here..!
