Unknown lantern

Here's a weird one for you... There is no maker's mark on it as far as I can tell and the tank holds a pint of oily 'tuff, the globe is for a Chalwyn Tropic Lantern, which is what drew my attention to it in the first place. I'm guessing that it was made in the 60s. Unfortunately there's a slight leak from the tank which will need to be sealed up.

Weird is certainly the word, never seen anything like it before Wonder

That is an odd one. The high capacity tank makes me think all night lighting; but it's not a hurricane lantern, so it doesn't have as much wind resistance for proper outdoor use. The burner is on its own without a deflector around the wick and not a design I'm familiar with.
If I was to take a punt, I'd guess it 's a deadflame lamp for a railway singalman or gate controller to keep in the box on the night shift But that is a complete shot in the dark!

The burner is very similar to the one on this lantern, so your guess at it being a deadflame lamp could be right. Wonder

It is, and I'm going to try and seal up where the leak is with a puddle of solder. Wonder
