Has he got a radioactive thoriated gas mantle? I keep one in a box as a Geiger-Counter check source Very Happy
Sammi   [Feb 19, 2025 at 05:26 PM]
I don't know, the mantle is brand new... Wonder
Tuopeek   [Feb 19, 2025 at 06:37 PM]
Maybe not then, they were trying to phase out the radioactive ones
Ria   [Feb 19, 2025 at 07:55 PM]
I'd guess so. We don't have a Geiger counter to check, though.

You can still get new Thorium mantles. In fact, sometimes they don't even carry radiation warning tags, and you can order them direct from Amazon! There's no real way of telling without the tick-tick-tick box. Some say the Thorium mantles glow with a slight green tinge, some say the newer ones do. It more depends on how close to the burner the mantle gets.
Still a very nice lantern there!

Wouldn't touch Amazon with a very long pole..! We got them from a very helpful seller on eBay.

We've had a disaster with the second lighting. Shocked Mind Blown
Lots of flames and smoke, thankfully we had a fire blanket on hand to smother the flames.! Embarrassed
It is going to take a bit of fettling, but Ted will get litted again. Oil lamp Cool

UPDATE
Ted has been rescued, we went to visit one of the members of CPL today, and her husband had a good look at him, and has given him a clean bill of health, plus we have litted him again.! Oil lamp Cool

Fun fake fact: they are called 'pressure lamps' because using them is anxiety inducing! Laughing
Good to know it's still in good working order Oil lamp

Oh yes, he had a good long run yesterday and another today, the instructions for the lamp say that you should get about twelve hours from a full tank... Oil lamp
