1000W GLS
This 240V GEC 1000W GLS lamp has seen a bit of service. It’s running here at about 10% to show the condensed tungsten on the glass envelope close to the neck. Think it dates from the early 1980s

These are room heaters Laughing

Not as much as our Atlas 2000W one Mr. Green Bulb Man
Tuopeek   [Thu 30 Oct 2025 at 19:31]
Ooh, that's a serious load. You would need a mortgage to pay for the power to run that these days. Nearly maxing out a 13A plug Smile
Ria   [Fri 31 Oct 2025 at 00:56]
Nah, a 13A plug can take our 3kW kettle easily, although I must admit the lamp does get almost as warm Mr. Green Incandescent lamp HD
Tuopeek   [Fri 31 Oct 2025 at 15:03]
Yeah, 3kW is more the max but the heating can wear the fuse out over time. Smile
Ria   [Fri 31 Oct 2025 at 15:11]
Possibly, don't think I've ever had a kettle fuse blow though. Which reminds me, all our kitchen stuff is due a PAT re-test.
Sammi   [Sat 01 Nov 2025 at 17:56]
What is it with the insistence to limit the wattage of kettles to 'save' energy.? Wonder
Having a kettle rated at 1.5kW it takes twice as long to boil the same volume of water, so you haven't saved anything.! Angry Cursing
Mind you we have seen Photon boil water in a light blub.! Laughing
Ria   [Sat 01 Nov 2025 at 19:33]
Yeah, that was a good one Mr. Green
Tuopeek   [Sat 01 Nov 2025 at 21:32]
Exactly, main voltage here is always around 250v and sometimes higher. Kettle will use more but for a shorter time net consumption is the same. Fill with less and don't boil twice Laughing
You PAT test your house hold items Surprised ? I'm so tuned in, if something live or there's an earth fault, I can detect it with the back of my hand. Very Happy
Ria   [Sun 02 Nov 2025 at 14:50]
Yep, I portable appliance test test them Razz We're both qualified to do it, so we thought why not..? Our kettle is one of those that boils just a mug of water at a time and dispenses it into the mug, so we can fill it but only boil what is needed.
