Iwasaki EYE 50W Clear MV Lamp

This was a lucky find in a recent job lot of lamps, it's a lovely example of the sheer quality of manufacture from the Japanese manufacturer Iwasaki. Low wattage clear elliptical mercury lamps are rare at any time, but I've not seen a 50W example before.

What ballast do you use for this lamp? Nearest one I have would be a 40w fluorescent choke.

I use a proper 50W mercury ballast, it's actually one I got from Michael in Switzerland, and is a rather unusual design (for the UK anyway) as it looks rather like a transformer with an open coil construction. I'll try and find the pictures of it and upload them later.

Not sure if a 40W fluorescent choke will work, but I know that a 200W incandescent lamp does, as it's what I used before I got the ballast Laughing

I have one of these in an E17 envelope for the American market, it's a thing of art as well. Mercury Vapour Lamp The ballast I use for it is a US style HX ballast rated for 50w mercury.
