Runup stages of an Ukrainian sodium lamp
|
Shown here is a 5th-generation 400 W ДНаТ, made in 1986 by the then Ukrainian state-owned ПЗГРЛ, a lamp manufacturer that was established in the Kyivs’kyi district of Poltava in the early 1960s. This company is significant for being the first lighting plant to produce high-pressure sodium lamps in the Soviet Union. This was achieved with some help from GE who provided the technical know-how behind the HPS lamp technology as part of a trade agreement between the USA and the USSR. The first ДНаТ rolled off the Ukrainian assembly line around 1975-76 and production ramped up to a million sodium lamps per year in 1983. ПЗГРЛ eventually became the largest lamp manufacturer in the Soviet Union with most of its production (70 %) catering to the export market (30 countries outside the USSR).
