Pacific Lighting & Standard 90w SOX Streetlight
Here's a shot of the SOX streetlight I bought at the start of the year fired up with a Philips 90w SOX lamp I picked up a while back. Unfortunately it seems like my other 90w SOX lamp, a Osram is a dud as it refuses to fire up even in this light. I suspect the fuse inside it blew somehow. I'm really glad the glass made it intact as the door frame holding the glass in was welded and putting in new glass would take some effort.

Anyway this was advertised as a Spaulding Palomar but it looks to be Pacific Lighting & Standard. The original tag on the inside of the ballast door is also long gone. The ballast date code looks to be November 1988.

Like the simple layout of this lantern and how the lamp can be seen clearly in all its detail.

Thanks, I find these pretty unique as this style seems to have been designed in the US and mainly saw use there. There were other styles of SOX luminaires in use, but most were designs from the UK and Europe with the gear swapped to US gear.

Thanks! I still miss the days when we had SOX on the expressways here.

I miss seeing them here as well, although there are a few stretches of motorways near London we know of that still have them, although for how much longer, who knows Confused GoldFinger

Interesting . Mine is currently completely disassembled for cleaning and a repaint . Yours is different as mine has all of the latches on one side instead of in a cluster like yours .

Ahh, I still need to take mine apart (or at least the ballast out) and give it a good wash. Hopefully I'll find time before the summer ends.

It seems like there were several different revisions of these.
