Holophane 420
This was a eBay find from a Canadian seller. It's in decent condition, however I want to clean up the corrosion inside and fill in some of the holes on the mounting plate that were drilled. I'm not entirely sure what the original mounting scheme was. The American ones had a hole intended for a 3/8" nipple but the Canadian ones don't have that. My hunch is that it was mounted to a bracket using the two upper side holes and the bottom centre hole. I saw one in the wild mounted using those holes.

Unfortunately the screws for the socket are rusted and stripped so I might have to resort to drilling them out.

I got the refractor off for cleaning already, I'm surprised it uses a sealed double refractor.

Nice one, that would take a remote-ballasted 50W MV lamp quite happily I would think.

Yep ! I did exactly that with mine ! I took a peek inside mine today . With the refractor/door removed , there's a roughly 3/4" hole that is used for mounting . I'll get a photo when I get a chance .

Thanks, yeah I think any of the medium based MVs (50, 75, 100w) would be a nice fit for this. 125w lamps might be a bit large.

Looking at my pictures of some of the ones in the wild, it looks like this revision used three bolts on the wall flange for mounting. Maybe I'll end up making a bracket for it.

I have one of these off of US eBay... I recently bought a few 39W CMH ballasts and I think one of those would fit quite nicely in here... paired with a porcelain G8.5 socket and a European-spec CDM-TC Mastercolour Elite from Philips... Very Happy

That would be a cool conversion! I converted a Powerlite mini gumball to LED using basically the same items you described.
