If I remember correctly, these were not all that efficient, unlike the MH equivalents, so did not sell all that well. Regardless, this is an interesting little lamp

I don't think efficacy had anything to do with them not selling well. Those SHX-S are more efficacious than 110W Penning-type sodium retrofit lamps (111.8 vs 72.7 l/W initial). I think the higher cost price was the main deterrent there. By the way, the 85 W Relumina was also not more efficacious (88.2 lm/W initial).

Hmmm, I must be remembering wrongly, I had the impression the Relumina lamps were more efficient

My mistake, I used the wrong data for the SHX-S 85W (that's the drawback with large excel tables). 112 lm/W is way too high for such a low-wattage HPS lamp, its efficacy is in fact close to 80 lm/W, so the Relumina 85W is indeed more efficacious.

                It happens

Back on the subject of that lamp, it has many interesting design features that makes it a highly collectible item. I have one, but it suffered from a cracked wafer base, a common issue with this lamp apparently, and I had to replace it with a new one (luckily there are still some available).

That's what happened to us, it arrived from the seller like that, but he replaced it without any quibble.!
