Me too. I can't believe that GEC-Osram waited until 1981 to finally use modern thermocompressive end seals for their HPS burners. I'm wondering if that's related to the Philips patents on this design (The Dutch invented it) and them becoming public domain around that time. That thermal snap switch was really a historical artefact that was used in GEC's lamps (and later German Osram's) for a surprisingly long time.
