Black light
This is my 175w tungsten ballasted GEC MBTW/V black light from 1978. It really lazy and doesn’t like starting. I haven’t ever given it a good long run as Max suggested a while ago, yet.

I love the old GLS-shaped discharge lamps. I have a couple of 125W blacklight lamps in this shape and also (thanks to Photon) an 80W one, which I never knew existed until I saw it..! Blacklight Mercury Vapour

Is that an 80w MB type requiring an external ballast? I saw one either 80w or 125w in this form with the 3-pin base in the physics dept of a college I worked at way back. Wish I picked it up. The college, now uni, doesn't even have a physics dept anymore. Sad

Yes, it's a standard 80W lamp but with Woods glass, just like the 125W one. This is the only 80W one I've ever seen, so I had to persuade Andy to part with it (for cash, of course, he's a brilliant salesman Mr. Green )

Nice picture and nice lamp! I like the use of the blank sheet of paper here, it outlines the shape of the lamp very nicely.

Well spotted, it is indeed just fluorescence from a sheet of paper in the background to frame the lamp.
