Philips Historische Producten museum Eindhoven (45/52)

During the 2000s Philips sought to reduce the production cost of its ML self-ballasted mercury lamps, whose manufacturing required some intensive labor. To that end the filament assembly was mechanized fully, resulting in the ballasting filament being placed away from the mercury arctube instead of around it as was the case before. The clear version of the lamp shows this interesting construction, which was the last ML design manufactured in Europe before production went to China.
