Westinghouse C70S62/PAR Dichroic 70W HPS Lamp
|
Many thanks to Eric (BT25) for this amazing lamp, which is one of only five known in the world in collectors' hands..! Designed for use in US coal mines, it is probably one of the first discharge lamps with a dichroic reflector and also perhaps the first HPS lamp in a sealed beam reflector. It has a very wide flood beam pattern and due to the action of the reflector, very little heat is radiated from the front of the lamp, but is instead directed out of the rear. The lit images are at bottom left, just after ignition, and on the right after warm-up.
From information received from another collector, I believe this particular lamp dates back to 1979, but we can't pinpoint it any closer than that, so if anyone has any more information, please get in touch.
