Solar spectrum

Here's the light emission spectrum of the most traditional of all light sources, our Sun. This spectrum, as seen from the outer edge of Earth's atmosphere, consists of an incandescent continuum with scattered absorption lines from elements present in the Sun's outer atmosphere. The study of those lines by Fraunhofer in 1814 gave birth to the field of spectroscopy, which enabled the discovery of many elements.
