Philips 80W HPL Mercury Lamp with standard BC cap

Here is another interesting lamp we received in the large haul of a few years ago. It is a standard 80W Philips HPL lamp of exactly the same design as this one, which came from a Canadian eBay seller a few years ago, except that it has a standard bayonet B22d cap rather than an E27 or B22d-3 3-pin BC type. There is therefore nothing to prevent it being plugged in to a normal incandescent lampholder, with rather disastrous results, although I suppose the same could be said for E27 cap lamps. The date code translates as January 1954.

Apologies for the slightly out-of-focus picture, I'll replace it as soon as possible (got to find the lamp first..!)

Interesting. Over here we had the 100w A23 mercury lamp, which I suspect was a attempt here to convert incandescent fixtures to MV. They were common for things like post tops and recessed cans.

Welcome to my world Ria ! There's nothing worse than knowing I have something but having NO idea exactly WHERE I have it .
