Floodlight Gear Tray
|
This is the gear tray for a 400W SON fitted Thorn Area Floodlight. These were popular units in the 1970 used in both floodlighting and streetlighting. Often found lighting garage forecourts and sometime even indoors where high bay fittings would normally be used. The ballast used here differs from the general column mounted version, the normal mounting bracket isn’t attached so it can fit in the luminary. It is therefore held in place by the metal bracket over the top. The unit is mainly GRP but the ballast tray is cast aluminium and incorporates the option to be column mounted or on an adjustable bracket. Seen here access to the gear is achieved by loosening two thumb screws allowing the lamp and part of the anodised reflector to be hinged forward revealing the control gear and terminal block.
