General test setup

Shown here is my basic lamp testing setup where a variac feeds the lamp-ballast system to be tested. A power analyzer is connected between the lamp and ballast in order to measure various electrical parameters. In this picture I was testing an Osram HQI-SE 400W/DX designed for an operation on the American S51 400-W sodium lamp CWA ballast. Here the lamp was still in the run up phase, resulting in a light color still dominated by the mercury buffer.

I'd rather like to know more about the power analyser, although it looks rather expensive Confused

You certainly can google its specs, it's a LEM/Fluke Norma 4000, and yes it's certainly not a cheap instrument although I got it for free when my old lab closed down.
