1991 Sylvania FNF Blue (12 V 50 W)

Sylvania’s early colored dichroic MR16 lamps are interesting for the fact that it is their primary multilayer mirror which is tuned to reflect a desired light color while transmitting the complementary color. The company made four different lamps of such kinds and this FNF is designed to project a blue-cyan light beam forward while the complementary orange light is transmitted towards the back side of the lamp. This particular color scheme can be explained by the fact that the spectral cutoff of the mirror is set in the green (500-550 nm range) to ensure a sufficiently bright projected light beam and to compensate for the weak spectral output in the blue from the incandescent tungsten-halogen source. The downside, however, is a less saturated projected blue light color.

These are rather nice, always liked the little MR16 lamps. We have a few, but not the dichroic ones.

Those are nice indeed. I think you should have a few dichro MR16, only of the standard kind where the multilayer mirror is designed to reflect visible light and transmit infrared radiation (in that case the spectral cutoff is located around 750-800 nm, at the edge of the IR-A domain).
