It really brings out different colours from the starter gas doing this. Always like the effect. Not sure what it does for the lamp over a long time. The current is very low but the voltage is quite high so may over work the electrode emissives over a long period.

Just a quick experiment, nothing long term. Especially as I may have been a little bit dumb with the wires Short Circuit Mind Blown Laughing
However, that little 8W driver was perfectly happy running a 35, a 55 and a 90W like this for 30 seconds. It even seemed to run the massive 180W fine!

Interesting, must see if we can replicate that somehow, don't have the type of circuit you used Wonder

I used an out of the box caravan light 12VDC 8W lamp You can get them online for quite cheap, and most come with car plugs on as standard. I used crocodile clips to connect to the contacts in the fluorescent lampholder and the SOX lampholder wires. Just remember to check the light is switched off before picking up both bare metal croc clips...
