London Transport 'Gibson' Ticket Machine
|
A recent eBay acquisition, I've been after one of these machines for many years, as they were the ticket machines used on the buses when I was growing up in the 1960s. It's a pre-decimal machine, with the 'old' £sd fare values, which makes it even better, as most of the surviving machines were converted to decimal currency and then to 'alpha' values of A, B, C etc. due to rapid fare increases.
The machine is named after its inventor, George Gibson, who was London Transport's Superintendent of fare collection at LT's Effra Road ticket machine works.
