We had our Thorn 200W HO lamp litted today, must take some pictures of it, also the 140W one.

I thought only GEC made these but learned Thorn also made them with their distinctive 'clover' style discharge tube. I only have the GEC version in the 60W format. Sad

The Lamptech page for the 200W HO version states it had a rather unique 5-leaf clover arc tube, but ours only has the usual 4-leaf one Wonder Linear Sodium Lamp

The 5-leaf clover burner is quite rare indeed, I have three different Thorn SLIs (including a 200W HO type) and they are all of the 4-leaf kind. Note also that German Osram used to produce linear LPS lamps as well (see there).

The genuine ballast for the 200W HO lamp seems rather rare, but we found that a US 175W M57 ballast is virtually a perfect match Linear Sodium Lamp

It is near impossible to find. German linear sodium lamps are much rarer than British ones.

The first street lighting on UK motorways was an installation of 1,200 140W linear sodium lamps on the M1 between London and Luton in 1971. I was almost certainly driven under them when out with my father at the time, but not being all that interested in lighting at the time I didn't realise Sad Linear Sodium Lamp
