Nice item complete with its box. I've never seen an educational water vapour discharge tube, they tended to be noble gasses or elemental. I guess having a electrical discharge in a compound complicates what is observed in the emission lines for school pupils, it even gets complicated for hydrogen as, like most gasses, it goes about in molecular pairs. Smile Was there ever a 4th tube in the kit, going by the spaces? I'd guess maybe CO2.

I guess the goal was not to go into the fine details of the emitted spectra, but to just show that different gases/vapors result in various light colors having specific optical spectra.

Good catch about the 4th lamp slot, its exact nature is anyone's guess. Personally I'm not sure those Soviet educational boxes even had all the same set of discharge lamps.
