Not see many mercury lamps with this type of outer envelope. Interesting lamp and wattage.

That was certainly not a common bulb shape for a mercury lamp in Europe after the 1950s. In North America there was a consumer market for mercury luminaires intended for patio/garden lighting, something that simply did not exist over here.

I really love these, I wish more A shape HIDs were made. I've seen clear versions of these as well. My clear ED shape MV lamp I have is 100W, and I had the opportunity to pay a little more to instead get an A shape one which I regret not doing. Whatever. Love that lamp, and yes these seem to be a lot more common over here. May I ask how you are running it? H38 ballasts are decently difficult to get here (I just deal with slight overballasting on M90), I can't imagine what you had to do to light it up over there.

It's easy to run 100 W US mercs here, in 220-250 V land. We simply use a 70 W HPS series choke, this ballast has just the right impedance for our mains.

We have a genuine US H38 ballast that we run from a 120V 60Hz inverter connected to a DC power supply. We always like to use the genuine gear whenever possible HID ballast

Ahh interesting, good to know because I think American M98 70W MH has the same specs as 240land 70W HPS. Just out of curiosity do you happen to know what current it runs at in this arrangement? My calculations with the reference ballast yields .76A which is a modest ~10% underballasting (almost certainly tolerable), I'm curious to see if I am correct.
