French inspection lamp with BLB tube I bought this on a trip to France probably about 40 years ago at least, it didn't have the BLB tube in when I got it, I hasten to add..! It has a glow-bottle starter in the base, but there is no ballast. The lead is obviously some sort of resistive ballast, as it does get warm to the touch after the lamp has been lit a while. interesting, at least at only 8W the lead won't get too hot if left coiled up.

It's not too bad, but I wouldn't want to run it for too long coiled. It's also rated at 220V which isn't much of a difference but enough that I run it on the Variac.

An 8W inspection lamp? Surely you would want something brighter for inspecting Wonder Interesting that it's got a glow bottle in it, I guess small electronic ballasts were some ways away when this was made.
