Title: Why does everyone need to drive with the high-beams on ??
Post by: wide-lite 1000 on 17/10/2024 03:56:06
Lately it seems that half of the drivers in this country like to just leave their high beams on when driving at night !!

Highbeams are great but people need to turn them off when coming up behind or approaching other vehicles !

It's probably because they're too lazy.!  :curse:

It's probably the same reason that they feel the need to keep their foot on the brake pedal at red lights or in traffic queues :curse:

Back when I was still able to drive my old Police car , I used to use the pillar mounted spot light for the same purpose . It has a 100w halogen sealed beam in it !

I've toyed with the idea of putting a light bar on the inside of my trunklid, so when someone is has the high beams on behind me at night I press a button under the dash and the trunk pops open and the light turns on.... :mrg:

Yeah, but then you'd have to stop to shut it again, and they'd catch you up and erm.. deal robustly with you..? :mrg:

The part I got stuck on was figuring out how to automatically close the trunk from the driver's seat, luckily I realized that problem before I tried this idea out. ;D

Some further thinking will be needed, I theorize that I'll need to make an automatic opening/closing system that can handle the forces applied to the trunk lid at highway speed from air. :wndr:

There shouldn't be much of an air resistance problem with that... :wndr:
It's a rag top that you need to be careful about opening or closing at speed.! :poof:

I've noticed that a lot of new cars now have power-operated boot (trunk) lids/hatchbacks, so those could theoretically be opened or closed remotely, but I'm not sure if it's possible to open them while the car is moving, I suspect there's some sort of interlocking :wndr:

On my trip to Connecticut , I passed a large truck who turned his high beams on shortly after i dropped back into the lane .  :curse:  A few quick taps of the brake pedal to flash the brake lights got him to turn them back off.. IDIOT !!
