Title: Ted the Tilley
Post by: Sammi on 21/02/2025 19:44:41
We've now got our first pressure lamp. Ted (https://trad-lighting.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=675) the Tilley lamp has been added to our collection. 8)
And he's probably not going to be the last...  :poof:

Bill (https://trad-lighting.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=721&message_id=05143f13d42b35f4117e41fafb2e27cb&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock), isn't quite the same as Ted (https://trad-lighting.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=30&pid=675#top_display_media), the colour of his tank is slightly different and there's a couple of years difference in age.  8)

Yesterday I got Ted litted and pumped up to full pressure to see how long he could keep going. 8)
It was only after 8 hours and 45 minutes that I added some more pumps, when there had been a significant drop in pressure. :wndr:
And I finally switched him off after 12 hours and 13 minutes.  :poof:

When I litted all three (https://trad-lighting.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=743#top_display_media) of my Tilley lampses, I left Ted on to see how much longer he would stay litted and the answer was another hour and four minutes. 8)

There is now a new addition to the Tilley family, another X246B stormlight made in December 1977 at the Belfast factory, it had been sitting for goodness knows how long with some oily 'tuff in the tank, which is a very nice red, and when I undid the pump there was still some pressure in the tank.! :poof:
Sam, as I've called him will be fettled over the next few days and will soon be litted again.!   :oil-ltn: I named him that after the bloke I got him from, he just wanted to get shot of the lamp, so we collected him on the way home from our trip. 8)
The night we brought him home, the oily lamp I have litted at my side of the bed began to go out through lack of oily 'tuff, and as I hadn't decanted any into the bottle I have for filling up, I used some of the old oily 'tuff, and it's still viable.!  8)

Would this be why you don't have space for the coronation lamp?

Quite possibly, I've now got some stainless steel 'S' hooks that I can use to hang some of lanterns off. :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:  :oil-ltn:
But that lantern really wants to be displayed properly, and now that we've got a MAT/V lamp to show off in a display case... :wndr:

Sam has now been fettled, and once he has cooled down after a very successful test burn I will fit a new mantle and get him litted properly. 8) :oil-ltn:
