Last night I thought that the 2D lamp in the bathroom had suddenly failed, but that wasn't the case at all, @Ria had turned the light off while I was still in there.! ::)

There are two types of light: The glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures.

The thing is that we don't have anything other than the bottle lamp we use to display our beehive neons, that is base down.

We've just found out that it was the ballast that failed and not the 2D lamp. ???
So as the ballast and lamp combo are actually meant for base down operation, there is now a regular CFL in the fitting. 8)

Rather annoyingly I had the last of my stash disappear right as they banned halogens/incans in the states. :-\

Fortunately, we have stocks of all the lamps we use at home, which should hopefully last us the rest of our lives 💡

I had the last halogen lamp in my room go out today, I installed it December of 2022. I was at my computer when i saw a blue flash and the room became 33% dimmer. I got a pretty good life out of those ecosmart (GE Hungary made) halogen lamps but unfortunately I can't get them anymore. At least I still have a few running in some table lamps and in the bathroom. 8) Mine all lasted fairly similar lengths of time, about 15-18 months after install in regular use they would fail.

It is interesting how some lamps last much longer than others of the same construction in similar environments

The other evening the little 10W 2D lamp we have on every day in our living room failed after 2 years and 10 months.  :(
But the bigger 28W 2D lamp in the bathroom is still going strong after more than 12 years.! 8)
