Westinghouse Ceramalux/4, C250S50/DX4 250W Deluxe High Pressure Sodium Lamp
There’s virtually no data available for this lamp, but what follows is what little is available: Around 1978, Westinghouse created and brought this lamp to market. (General Electric followed suit about two years later with their own version.) This lamp was the first US deluxe high pressure sodium lamp. It appears that it was discontinued sometime after the Philips take over in 1983. It also appears that this lamp was not a great seller. (Philips around 1988 reintroduced the DX lamp and called it by the “Comfort” branding.) Originally only sold in the 250-watt size, a 150-watt (100V/S56), and the 200-watt (S66) sizes were added later.

Suggested retail price in 1980 is $71.00!

I wonder why they chose the 150w S-56 and the 200w ? Both were rather uncommon for anything other than streetlighting.

Good question...if I'd been the deciding engineer, it would've been the 400W, and the 150W (52V) lamps. There's probably a good reason...

My thoughts exactly ! While they were at it , they should've made a 310w also ! Mr. Green

I wonder if the 200w was an attempt at getting existing users with 400w MV highbays to convert to 200w deluxe HPS. The 150w S56 is a bit puzzling, I personally would have targeted the lower wattage lamps (along with a 200w or 250w), 100w for a 175w MV recessed can replacement and 50w or 70w for a 100w MV recessed can replacement.
