Spectral lines Multi-vapor
This is a close-up image of the arc tube in the GE Multi-Vapor MVR400/U/40 lamp discussed. I have taken this image under a fixed camera white-balance set to daylight to show the warm output. I have also added the insert image of its spectral output.

Thanks Ria, I certainly had to suffer temporary blindness to achieve this picture Laughing

Nice shot, and the spectrum insert is a very nice touch too. Based on the latter your lamp definitely has sodium and scandium, but given its light color it is clear that sodium dominates the light output, more than it should be. If the lamp is not overdriven, then this is a clear sign that either sodium iodide was dosed well in excess of the lamp's specification, or there is too little scandium.

Thanks Max, perhaps a fortunate accident, as it had a great colour temperature for indoor use.

That's a fortunate accident indeed. Are you actually planning on using it for indoor lighting? Its 40 klm output might be a bit too much...

Only on occasion. It's a cheerful warming light that blast away any seasonal depressions in the long winter months Laughing

I believe you. I use a combination of 100 W mercury and 150 W metal halide as an effective way to address SAD, and it works very well, so I can imagine what a 400 W MH lamp can do... Even if yours has a warm-white light color, I'm sure it has plenty of blue light to kill your melatonin.
