Philips Goldeye 18W SOX Wallpack Thanks to Joseph (347vPowerlite) for this little fixture. Although we're not really fixture collectors here, this was too good a chance to pass up..! And yes, there are wirenuts in there..! They were soon replaced with Wago connectors, though..! This fixture was virtually unique to Canada, the only other place they're known for sure to exist is Australia, where of course they are 240V 50Hz, but I have never seen one of those available anywhere. When we ran it up for the first time it got extremely hot, probably all right for outside in the middle of a Canadian winter , but not inside here.! Mind Blown
A PFC capacitor has since been added, though it took a couple of attempts to get the correct value, and it's now running a lot cooler.! Cool

24µF seems to work ok, although I didn't have a capacitor of that value, so we used 2 x 12µF ones, which fit inside the housing ok.

Nice little SOX luminaire. I have fond childhood memories that include the French/European version of it in the wild (i.e., Mazda DUC18 and Philips XGC001).

So although you don't 'need' to fit a PFC capacitor, ballasts are much 'happier' when one is used.! HID ballast

Nice, glad to see this again. I ended up adding a PFC capacitor to mine as well, it runs too hot without a capacitor IMO.

Yeah, I've only heard of these being sold in Canada and Australia. I believe for the American market, Philips had a more conventional 18w SOX wallpack instead of these. They're designed in such as way to allow for both ceiling and wall mounting, and vertical or horizontal for the latter.
