We got a good deal on buying all of the correct gear for the SOX-E lampses.

Honestly , the capacitor shouldn't be much of an issue for short term use . I didn't notice I had initially installed the wrong voltage cap in my Wide-Lite . It worked fine for about 100 hrs, before it finally failed .

That's good to know. I might be able to make up the values required with two capacitors, I'll have to check to see what I've got in the big box of caps we have.

Here is a set of gear to run a 131W SOX-E lamp. It consists of a Philips BSX 131 H96 ballast, an SX131 ignitor and a 3.4µF 450V capacitor. Note from the diagram that the capacitor connects in series with the lamp and ignitor, so is essential to the circuit. Interestingly, the ignitor is also a 3-wire type as opposed to the usual 2-wire parallel ignitor used on most SOX lamp circuits.
[i][b]Before anyone comments, I am fully aware that the ballast diagram does specify a 650V rated capacitor, but I do not have one so used this one instead for testing purposes. I will obtain the correct capacitor before running the lamp again.[/b][/i]
