Wide-Lite 1000w H-34 High-Bay Ballast
|
This ballast will run the uncommon for North America 1000w H-34 Mercury Lamp . The H-34 design wasn't as popular as the more common H-36 version as it's rated for indoor use at 50°f and higher and outdoors only in very mild climates . (info from 1978 westinghouse Lamp Catalog ) . This is EXTREMELY HEAVY (31 lbs) as it is completely filled with black tar-like potting material . (Probably full of Asbestos & PCBs ) !!
The fixture head which attaches to this balllast fits into an indexed socket on the large end and is held in place by 3 set screws . Electrical connections from the ballast to the fixture are made by a pair of contacts inside the socket . The socket portion seems a bit sketchy to me as it consists of a pair of unprotected contacts that can be easily touched in not paying close attention to where your fingers are ! I'll post a photo of the socket portion separately .
